Josh McClellan spent ten years as founder and President of McClellan Health Systems Inc. (MHS). Through strategic acquisitions and development, MHS grew from a single, skilled nursing facility to a leading regional healthcare provider with six full-service retirement communities, caring for over 650 residents. The company philosophy was simple: create a supportive family environment where staff members and residents are treated with dignity and respect, and are encouraged to celebrate life each day. This philosophy was emphasized by a commitment to find, develop and retain the best people, and through continual investment in its communities.
As President of MHS, Josh was responsible for the direction and leadership of over 700 MHS staff members and an operation budget of over $35 million. MHS offered a full range of senior care options including skilled nursing, rehabilitation, assisted and independent living services. In June, 2006 Josh successfully negotiated the sale of all MHS communities to Trilogy Health Services of Louisville, Kentucky.
In 2008, Josh founded Azura Living with the purpose of Transforming the Culture of Care. As a result, he designed, developed, opened and operated Azura of Lakewood — Rehabilitation Suites, a 108 suite skilled nursing facility providing short-term, transitional rehabilitation services transforming the culture of rehabilitative care in the Denver area. In addition, he began to branch the exceptional services provided by the Azura Living family of care into serving those with memory loss, creating Azura Memory Care.
Josh serves at President and CEO of Azura Living and continues its commitment by actively seeking new development opportunities and management agreements with developers who are in need of our services to manage their senior living communities.
Josh is a licensed nursing home administrator who earned his M.B.A from the University of Findlay in 1999 and a B.S. from the Ohio State University in 1995. He is active in several trade organizations including the Colorado Health Care Association, the American Health Care Association, the Alzheimer’s Association, and Young Presidents Organization.
The success of MHS led to several local and regional recognitions including the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Northwest Ohio.
“Our goal at Azura Memory Care is to ensure that every person within our family of care is treated with the utmost respect,” said Josh. “We encourage our Team to have fun at work and to engage our residents in magical moments of joy every day!”
Core Value Story: RESPECT
Did you know that Josh loves to sweep the floor? To take out the garbage? To clear off tables? There are many ways that Josh lives, breathes and exemplifies our Core Values every day at Azura, but it is these little things that show the RESPECT he has for what we do at Azura. Nothing is beneath Josh and that is not what you typically see in an owner. He doesn’t just breeze in, tell you what’s wrong or to fix things and move on. He sits down with you, with your Team, with the families and with our residents and listens. He can’t always solve the problem, but he takes the time to RESPECT every individual he comes into contact with. He tries to learn their name and something about them, so that next time he sees them he “knows” them. These are just a handful of the ways that Josh doesn’t just talk the talk at Azura, but he walks the walk – broom or garbage bag in hand.
