Memory care residents from early-stage memory loss through late-stage Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias will be cared for in secured households purpose-designed for cognitive change, while assisted living residents will enjoy a setting that supports independence with the right level of help.

Memory Care for Alzheimer's & Dementia in Waunakee

When Azura Waunakee opens in Fall 2027, it will offer dedicated memory care households serving residents and families across northern Dane County. Memory care suites within the 88-unit community are being purpose-built for residents living with early-, mid-, and late-stage Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, including vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia, and Parkinson’s-related dementia.

Care here will be grounded in the MOSAIC philosophy, our person-centered framework that honors each resident’s life story, preferences, and remaining strengths. Rather than fitting people into a fixed program, our team builds daily life around who each resident is and always has been.

Every team member supporting Azura residents completes more than 110 hours of training within their first year, including our proprietary MOSAIC training, with ongoing education thereafter. The curriculum covers dementia communication, behavior support, sensory engagement, nutrition and swallowing considerations in advanced dementia, and compassionate end-of-life care.

With 24/7 staffing and a peak shift of approximately 30 team members across the building, support stays consistent and unhurried; relationships have time to deepen between residents, families, and the care team. Daily programming will blend music, art, reminiscence, gentle movement, and structured social connection; the kind of engagement that eases anxiety and brings real meaning to each day.

The memory care households will be fully secured, with monitored entrances and outdoor courtyards designed specifically for residents with memory loss; safe walking paths, sensory plantings, and shaded seating let residents enjoy fresh air and Wisconsin’s seasons safely throughout the year.

Assisted Living at Our Waunakee, WI Community

The assisted living portion of Azura Waunakee will offer private apartments for older adults who want to maintain their independence with thoughtful, personalized support. Residents will receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, medication management, mobility, and personal care, while keeping the freedom to set their own schedule, host family, and continue the rhythms of life they’ve always known.

Life in Waunakee’s assisted living households will include chef-prepared meals served in household dining rooms, a full calendar of social activities and outings, specialized spa and salon services, and around-the-clock team member support. The philosophy is simple: support where it’s needed, independence everywhere else.

Assisted living is typically the right fit when an older adult needs help with one or two daily tasks, may struggle with cooking or housekeeping, or simply prefers not to live alone, but isn’t experiencing significant memory loss. Memory care is the better fit when a dementia diagnosis is affecting safety, judgment, or familiar tasks, or when wandering and disorientation have become real concerns.

Because Waunakee’s memory care and assisted living households will share one building, residents whose needs change over time can transition between care levels without leaving the community they know; familiar faces, friendships, and routines stay intact.

Waunakee Memory Care & Assisted Living Rates

Final rates for Azura Waunakee will be announced closer to our Fall 2027 opening. To give families a planning benchmark, our Verona community (which will offer the same room types, care services, and amenities as Waunakee) currently ranges from $5,960 to $10,234 per month for assisted living and $8,580 to $12,636 per month for memory care. Waunakee rates are expected to fall in a comparable range, with final pricing confirmed prior to opening.

The all-inclusive monthly rate will cover private accommodations, three chef-prepared meals daily plus snacks, housekeeping and laundry, utilities, the full activity calendar, 24-hour team member support, and personalized care services.

Two factors will shape where a resident’s rate lands:

  • Level of care. Residents who need minimal daily support pay less than those requiring extensive personal care, advanced memory care, or end-of-life support.
  • Room and floor plan choice. Private rooms and enhanced suite options will be priced accordingly.

For families weighing cost, comparison matters. Around-the-clock private in-home care in the Madison area typically runs $20,000 or more per month, and that figure doesn’t include housing, meals, utilities, social engagement, or the specialized dementia programming and trained team that come standard at Azura.

A note on payment sources: Assisted living and memory care are primarily paid through private funds or long-term care insurance; Medicare and Medicaid alone don’t cover assisted living or memory care. Wisconsin does offer a few county-administered funding programs for financially qualified residents through Dane County’s resources, with eligibility and funds varying by program. We also support veterans and surviving spouses who qualify for the VA Aid & Attendance benefit. Our team is glad to walk through funding options, including reviewing your long-term care insurance policy.

What Makes Azura Waunakee Different

Azura Waunakee will be a brand-new community at 151 Breunig Blvd, purpose-built from the ground up for the way modern senior living should work. Rather than retrofitting an existing structure, every square foot has been designed around what our team has learned over years of operating memory care and assisted living communities across Wisconsin; from acoustics that calm rather than overstimulate, to courtyards designed for safe outdoor time in every season, to household kitchens that bring the smell of breakfast into daily life.

Our four-household design replaces the long-hallway model of larger facilities. Each household will have its own kitchen, dining room, and living spaces; daily life stays human-scaled even with capacity for 88 residents.

Every team member will be grounded in our MOSAIC philosophy and supported by Azura’s nationally recognized education program, with more than 110 hours of training (including proprietary MOSAIC training) in the first year. With 24/7 staffing and a peak shift of approximately 30 team members, residents and families experience the kind of attentive, relationship-based care that’s increasingly rare in this industry.

On-site clinical and therapy services

As care needs evolve, Azura brings specialists directly to residents so families don’t have to coordinate outside appointments. Through collaboration with home health and hospice providers and area physicians, Waunakee residents will have access to:

  • Physical, occupational, and speech/swallow therapy to support recovery, mobility, communication, and safe eating
  • On-site physician visits for routine and ongoing medical care
  • On-site dental and podiatry services
  • Wound care and skilled nursing support through our home health partners
  • End-of-life care through Azura Hospice, our own hospice service; residents can remain in the household they know, surrounded by the team and friends already part of their daily life

Lifestyle, comfort, and connection

Beyond clinical care, Waunakee will offer private rooms and enhanced suite options, specialized spa and salon services, outdoor courtyards designed separately for memory care and assisted living, and engagement programming tailored to each household. Family events, music, intergenerational visits, and seasonal celebrations will be part of the rhythm here, just as they are across every Azura community.

Memory care is a specialized form of senior living designed for people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or another dementia; it includes secured spaces, dementia-trained team members, and engagement built around cognitive change. Assisted living supports older adults who need help with daily activities such as bathing or medication but don’t have significant memory loss.

No. Assisted living and memory care are primarily paid through private funds or long-term care insurance; Medicare and Medicaid alone don’t cover either. Wisconsin does offer a few county-administered programs for financially qualified residents through Dane County’s Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC). Our team can also help review your long-term care policy.

Azura Waunakee will care for residents with all major forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia, Parkinson’s-related dementia, and mixed dementia. The memory care households will support residents from early memory loss through late-stage care, which typically means families avoid having to move their loved one again.

Memory care is the right step when a dementia diagnosis is affecting safety, such as wandering, leaving appliances on, getting lost in familiar places, or significant judgment changes. Assisted living is the better fit when help is mainly physical (bathing, dressing, medications) without major cognitive decline. A professional care assessment confirms the level.

Yes. Azura Waunakee will feature outdoor courtyards designed separately for each household type; secured courtyards for memory care residents with safe walking paths and sensory plantings, and open courtyard space supporting independence for assisted living. Outdoor access matters every day, and we design for it intentionally.
