At 80 years old, Jerry Apple, resident at Azura Memory Care of Oak Creek, only dreamed of driving a race car once again. Azura’s MOSAIC Dreams Program, which aims to fulfill dreams of their residents, loved the idea of getting Jerry back in a race car and worked with SCCA Milwaukee to make it happen.
Jerry used to race with SCCA Milwaukee and had four cars he worked on and drove, one of which he completely built by himself! He is self-taught and learned how to customize his cars through watching others and years of trial and error. Jerry describes being in a race car “a feeling like no other” and Azura and SCCA Milwaukee were ecstatic to bring Jerry’s dream to life.
Azura connected with Justin, the Regional Executive at SCCA Milwaukee. He loved Jerry’s story and background and decided to host Jerry as their DRIVE Charity event at Road America! On Friday, August 25th, they gave Jerry a ride in one of their race cars around the track and hit 150 mph! “This is one of the best days I have had in a very long time,” Jerry shares.
